Footwear for differently abled persons

Zappos has started selling single shoes and mismatched pairs. This is a huge boon for people with differently sized feet or only one foot. Outside Business Journal has an article on Zappos’ program, which I just heard about but was apparently started last summer (2020). This issue may not be at the forefront of too many people’s minds, but as a designer I know how great this can be for some.

While at SOLE, I developed a pair of flips for a customer who had one leg that was around 1.5″ shorter. By making an extra thick layer in the platform, we were able to produce a one-off pair for her that would a big difference. I was stoked to be able to help, but bummed that it had to be a one-off. Kudos to Zappos for helping differently abled people.
