3D Woven Material for Footwear

Industrial designer, Oluwaseyi Sosanya, has developed a 3D weaving loom that can create compressible, lightweight materials. Different weave patterns result in different structural qualities, but all are compressible and there is potential for use in midsoles. The video shows the material as an outsole but I doubt it is actually durable enough for the wear and tear of contact with the ground. Regardless, a very cool new use of RP technology.

Thanks to Blaine Brownell and his Transmaterial emails/website, bringing to light new materials.
